Background of the Study
Urbanization is transforming the social, economic, and environmental landscape in Nigeria, leading to significant changes in lifestyle and health behaviors. In Enugu State, rapid urban growth has been associated with shifts in dietary habits, reduced physical activity, and increased stress—all of which contribute to the rise of lifestyle diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular conditions (Olayinka, 2023). The transition from traditional rural lifestyles to urban living often results in increased consumption of processed foods, sedentary behaviors, and exposure to environmental pollutants. These factors collectively increase the risk of developing non-communicable diseases. Public health research has increasingly focused on understanding the impact of urbanization on health outcomes, highlighting the need for interventions that address the lifestyle factors contributing to these diseases (Adebisi, 2024). This study aims to investigate the relationship between urbanization and the prevalence of lifestyle diseases in Enugu State, providing insights that can guide public health policies and urban planning initiatives to mitigate these risks (Ibrahim, 2025).
Statement of the Problem
The rapid urbanization in Enugu State has been accompanied by a notable increase in lifestyle diseases, which pose a significant burden on the healthcare system. The shift towards urban living has led to changes in dietary patterns, decreased physical activity, and increased exposure to stressors, all of which are risk factors for conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and hypertension. Despite efforts to promote healthy lifestyles, many urban residents continue to adopt behaviors that increase their risk of lifestyle diseases. The lack of comprehensive data on the direct impact of urbanization on health outcomes in Enugu State hampers the development of effective interventions. Without targeted public health strategies that address the consequences of urbanization, the prevalence of lifestyle diseases is likely to continue rising, further straining healthcare resources and impacting quality of life (Chukwuma, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on urban centers in Enugu State, targeting adult populations. Data will be collected through health surveys, environmental assessments, and interviews. Limitations include potential confounding factors and difficulties isolating urbanization effects from other socioeconomic variables.
